What is cybersecurity?

Cybersecurity is the discipline that consists of protecting systems and confidential information against digital attacks. Cybersecurity measures are designed to combat threats to network systems and applications that originate from both external and internal attackers to an organization.

Cybercriminals often target the personally identifiable information (PII) of the attack target, such as names, addresses, national identification numbers, or credit card details, and then sell this information on underground digital markets. Compromised PII often leads to a loss of customer confidence in the target business, as well as leading to regulatory fines or even legal action.

More and more organizations have a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy, driven by best practices and automated using advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, that can deal with cyber threats more effectively and reduce the duration and the consequences of cyber attacks when they occur.
